Going Green is Important

Going "Green" has been the goal for DallasNovelty.com for the last 12 months. On the website we have added a new section called Go Green which can be found at GreenBetweentheSheets.com to help educate and provide customers with toys they can count on to be green.

More of the manufacturers in the Adult Novelty Business have started the switch to using green or renewable ingredients in their products. Alot of the companies have noted on the packaging and information that is released to the public whether or not the product contains Pthalates (pronounced thay-lates) and what exactly is used to make the item. Rechargeable Vibrators and Toys have been showing up in stores and on websites in the last 2 years. Another new ingredient that is catching on is using exotic hardwoods for dildos, cockrings and anal products. NobEssence is one company that has an excellent line of Exotic Hardwood Dildos and other various items.

Last year 2 companies experimented with Solar Powered Control boxes for 3 of their adult toys but discontinued the products the end of 2008 due to lack of sales. I thought they would work since they were just a battery pack that could control any item with a jack style power plug. The 100% silicone, Elastomed, glass/pyrex and stainless steel have been the most popular "Green" material for almost every major adult novelty manufacturer big and small. LELO is a Swedish company that has quite a few of the higher end Stainless Steel toys as well as NJOY.

Another way companies are showing support for the green movement is not using paper and going almost entirely digital with statements and accounting. This has been seen in mainstream business for quite awhile and just recently as of the last 24 months in the adult industry. We use email now to send newsletters and bulletins with sales to customers versus sending paper mail in the snail mail.

All natural lubes, massage oils/lotions and candles are starting to show up from a variety of companies and the prices are gradually going down so more people can afford them. It used to be just the high end companies made the green products but with the prices of materials going down it has trickled down. Hemp is getting huge attention as a renewable resource used in everything from lubes to toys. Rechargeable Vibrators and Massagers are definitely one way to help keep so many AA and C Cell batteries out of our landfills. Massagers that plug into the wall such as the Hitachi Magic Wand have always been a top seller and helps the enviroment as you get off. Fun Factory has an awesome line of Rechargeable but they are very hard to keep in stock but most of the other companies like Doc Johnson and Topco have quite a few options to the green customer. LELO has a mini vibe called Mia that can be recharged using any USB on your laptop or PC.

Condoms are the next new area to start using green materials in their construction. Most condoms are made of latex which takes a long time to break down in landfills. Glyde condoms are a relative newcomer but has the backing of the vegan society and the fire is spreading fast. I believe we will be seeing more major manufacturers using biodegradeable materials while still maintaining protection againt pregnancy and STD's.
